Footnote is a website which allows users access to millions of documents from all over the world, this is the first time that they have ever been available on the internet before. The documents available include naturalization papers, historical newspapers and military records. Footnote also makes it possible for anyone to upload user created content, this can be anything from letters, documents and photos. Users can then annotate and connect records to make the documents more interesting. Footnote has a partnership deal with NARA and various other archives to digitize these documents. These documents aren’t available anywhere else on the internet.

Footnote was founded in June 2006 and the site was publicly launched on 10th January 2007. The company itself is based in Lindon, USA and they have received a total of $8 million in funding from various sources since launch. The site is unique because it offers information unavailable elsewhere.
